Composed of Meng Su and Yameng Wang, each artist comes to the partnership with exceptional credentials including a string of competition awards. Ms. Su’s honors include victories at the Vienna Youth Guitar Competition and the Christopher Parkening Young Guitarist Competition, while Ms. Wang was the youngest guitarist to win the Tokyo International Guitar Competition at the age of 12, and she was invited by Radio France to perform at the Paris International Guitar Art Week at age 14.
Among their first duo achievements, the Beijing Guitar Duo received the Solomon H. Snyder Award, which resulted in their New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. It was with this concert that the Beijing Guitar Duo launched their international concert career.
Each season takes them to guitar centers in countries in Europe, United States and China. The Beijing Guitar Duo served as Resident Artists of the San Francisco Performances which brought them twice a year for a weeklong outreach program in the Bay Area, with performances and master classes in public schools and the San Francisco Conservatory.
The Beijing Guitar Duo’s debut recording, “Maracaipe,” received a Latin Grammy Award nomination for best contemporary classical composition by Sergio Assad. Their second recording, titled “Bach to Tan Dun” features music of Bach, Scarlatti, Tedesco, Granados, as well as the world premiere recording of Tan Dun’s “Eight Memories in Watercolor” in an arrangement for two guitars. In May 2014, they released a trio recording in collaboration with Manuel Barrueco, “China West” –a stunning showcase of artistry and virtuosity
This season, the duo is working on their third album to be released in 2021-2022 season.
This performance is supported in part the Maryland State Arts Council. Visit them at msac.org.
