The Maryland Science Center’s popular science of adult beverages series focuses on Rum in July with Rum on the Roof, a tasting of and presentation on Rum, led by Master Distiller Ben Lyon of Maryland’s own Lyon Distilling Company.

Join us on Thursday, July 27 from 7pm to 9pm when we put a tropical twist on a night of science and rum. Taste several varieties of Lyon’s rum and knock back a rum-inspired umbrella drink or two while learning about the history and the science of the rum making process. The night includes an informal presentation, a selection of delectable bites, different rums, a chance to quiz Master Distiller Ben Lyon, and the breath-taking views of the city from the roof of MSC. Rum on the Roof is designed to be a fun, informative, and social evening that is appealing to both experienced and novice rum drinkers alike. If you like rum, you’ll like this.

Event and Ticket Information:

Doors open at 7:00pm, the presentation will run from 7:30pm to approximately 8:30pm, leaving time to mingle and talk with the expert before and after the main portion.

Tickets are $60 per person ($55 members) and are all-inclusive of light fare, drinks, and Rum on the Roof presentation. Rum cocktails will be available at the beginning of the evening for all participants as well.

About Ben Lyon:

Ben Lyon is the Master Distiller & Co-Founder of Lyon Distilling Company in Saint Michaels, Maryland. Ben learned to distill over a decade ago in New England, after experimenting with home brewing. His love of fine spirits, passion for booze making, rum swilling & sailing, inspired him to start a distillery. Ben’s unique ideas for recipes and careful approach to ultra-small batch distillation are reflected in every bottle.
