Aphasia is a condition that effects nearly 4 million Americans, yet most people do not know what it means. The word aphasia (from the Greek – meaning “speechlessness”) is a condition that most often results from a stroke. Aphasia robs an individual of their ability to communicate-to speak, read, write or understand, and it affects everyone differently.  Aphasia often results in social isolation and depression. The SCALE program is geared towards unlocking the doors of this devastating condition and providing the tools and resources necessary to go on living a good life despite having aphasia. Your philanthropic supports helps us in providing barrier free access to all SCALE has to offer, regardless of a families ability to pay out of pocket for these life changing services.

Originally founded in July 2008 by the Snyder Family, SCALE merged with The League for People with Disabilities in November of 2014. Now celebrating 10 years in operation, SCALE is a national leader in raising awareness and advocacy for this devastatingly underserved condition and continues to be the premier center for aphasia treatment in Maryland.
