Hampden Frocks, Flourishes & Fromage

Talented local dress designer Jill Andrews maintains her salon in the beautifully restored old Northern District Police Station on Keswick Road in Hampden. On my morning running route one day earlier this week, I ran past the display window and was stopped by this stunner. It’s a gown made from magazine pages that she created for the current issue of Baltimore Bride magazine. That’s about the most stylish, creative dressmaking I can think of since Scarlett O’Hara made hers out of the house draperies!

To add a little more shine to your holidays (or for someone on your gift list), consider dropping by Anthony Corradetti͛s Glassblowing Studio & Gallery, as I did recently.

If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch a live glass-blowing demonstration, as well as seeing (and buying) all the gorgeous results.

…and maybe come up with a few holiday decorating ideas…

Wicked Sisters, which opened recently on Falls Road in the space that housed the popular McCabe’s for many years, is the newest Hampden neighborhood hotspot. But you won’t recognize the old space at all, as it now sports an entirely new street facade and completely redesigned interiors.

We’ve enjoyed everything we’ve sampled from the menu of comfort classics done with a creative spin. Their house special, a take on an Old Fashioned is great, and comes served in a beautiful coupe glass.

The restaurant now occupies two levels, and this snazzy overhead satellite-style chandelier graces the ceiling in the two-level stairwell. Look up!
