It’s All About The Relationship!
Clipper City Business Builders is a professional networking series like no other in Baltimore. We host business-oriented events that focus on innovators, start-ups and high-growth businesses in the Baltimore region. These attendees are high energy, highly creative, highly motivated individuals who are making it happen in Charm City, by not only what they know, but who they know.
These are the folks who are shaping the future of our city, who know they need a viable, working network of high-value individuals to achieve their goals. These are professionals who “get it”. Business intelligence is here for the taking, and our attendees are happy to give. Plus, the extracurricular introductions outside the event schedule are where the value really lies, as compatible and partner-worthy businesses are introduced, and contacts nurtured so that they thrive and flourish.

Benefits Maryland Science Center
Tickets $60, Members $55
The Maryland Science Center’s popular science of adult beverages series focuses on Rum in July with Rum on the Roof, a tasting of and presentation on Rum, led by Master Distiller Ben Lyon of Maryland’s own Lyon Distilling Company.
Join us on Thursday, July 27 from 7pm to 9pm when we put a tropical twist on a night of science and rum. Taste several varieties of Lyon’s rum and knock back a rum-inspired umbrella drink or two while learning about the history and the science of the rum making process. The night includes an informal presentation, a selection of delectable bites, different rums, a chance to quiz Master Distiller Ben Lyon, and the breath-taking views of the city from the roof of MSC. Rum on the Roof is designed to be a fun, informative, and social evening that is appealing to both experienced and novice rum drinkers alike. If you like rum, you’ll like this.
Event and Ticket Information:
Doors open at 7:00pm, the presentation will run from 7:30pm to approximately 8:30pm, leaving time to mingle and talk with the expert before and after the main portion.
Tickets are $60 per person ($55 members) and are all-inclusive of light fare, drinks, and Rum on the Roof presentation. Rum cocktails will be available at the beginning of the evening for all participants as well.
About Ben Lyon:
Ben Lyon is the Master Distiller & Co-Founder of Lyon Distilling Company in Saint Michaels, Maryland. Ben learned to distill over a decade ago in New England, after experimenting with home brewing. His love of fine spirits, passion for booze making, rum swilling & sailing, inspired him to start a distillery. Ben’s unique ideas for recipes and careful approach to ultra-small batch distillation are reflected in every bottle. One of his goals is to blend innovative techniques with traditional methods to create one-of-a-kind spirits – redefining what makes an exceptional rum or whiskey – and producing bottles that are worthy of a spot on his own bar, as well as yours.
About Lyon Distilling Company:
Lyon Distilling Company is a micro distillery located in Saint Michaels, Maryland, steps from the Chesapeake Bay. Founded in 2012, the distillery launched with a signature line of rums paying tribute to the rich, spirited traditions of the Eastern Shore. Hand-crafted from start to finish, Lyon spirits begin as intentionally-sourced raw ingredients, and are hand-crafted – mashed, fermented, and double-distilled in small pot stills – every step of the way, resulting in a superior and unique final product. The goal is to create distinctly American spirits – working to define the category of new American rum, and perfecting Maryland Rye Whiskey & American Malt Whiskey, while experimenting with obscure grains and varied finishes.

Get ready for one hell of a wild Afro-Champeta dance party, direct from Bogota! “There are very few guarantees in life. But one of them must — must! — be that as soon as you hear “Made in Tribu Baharú,” you’ll start moving. (I promise.)”- NPR Music Hailing from Bogotá, Colombia, Tribu Baharú is an afro-champeta music crew who are winning over audiences here in the U.S., one city at a time. Considered the most important Afro-Champeta band on the international scene, their live shows , punctuated by lilting guitar work and nearly acrobatic singers, are sweat-drenched, dance parties. Champeta is a term that refers to a knife used by fishermen to remove fish scales. In recent years the term has come to describe an Afro-Colombia style of music born on Colombia’s Atlantic Coast. Champeta originated In the 1970s and ’80s when traveling West African sailors docking in Colombian ports like Cartagena and Barranquilla, carried along LPs of Congolese soukous, as well as Ghanaian and Nigerian highlife bands. The Atlantic coast of Colombia, which has huge populations who are descendants of slaves and Maroon groups, heard themselves in these sounds. Soon, Colombian artists began soaking up the lilting guitars and big, jazzy harmonies, and all those influences started commingling in the “picó” (sound system) culture of Colombia’s ports. That is how a modern, dazzlingly energetic and decidedly African champeta was born.
