AVAM Whirligig Reinstallment
The “party” may have been a small one – just a few employees and fans – but the celebration was still big in the eyes of American Visionary Art Museum founder Rebecca Hoffberger. Five months ago, the museum’s signature outside sculpture – the 55-foot Whirligig created by the late Vollis Simpson – was taken down for a facelift after 28 years of braving Baltimore’s elements. With all of its original splendor restored, the piece was reinstalled June 21, 2022…and life was good again.
