Far East Florals

Far East Florals

This week, I was inspired by Asian-inspired textiles that three women were wearing. All three of them used accessories to make the florals either the focal point or a subtle touch.

I stopped Jennifer DiFolco in the hall as she was on her way out for a night in Mt. Vernon. Jennifer’s look is romantic but far from helpless. The dress from South Moon Under has beautiful lace that creates wonderful cut-outs in the middle of the dress and an interesting hemline.

The addition of the edgy embroidered floral Asian-inspired bomber jacket from Dolls Kill creates an unusual combination of colors and textures. For a funky touch, the Wildfox sunglasses, bought from Love Shack in Delray Beach, are adorned with a star and a moon. Paired with black lace-up Dolce Vita booties brings the whole look together.

On her way to work in Mt. Vernon, Rebecca Johnson stopped to talk with me about her outfit. She started by telling me that she’s loved fashion since before kindergarten "I remember a specific time when I was around that age and my mom refused to buy me a pair of corduroy overalls because I already had a similar pair. I bawled my eyes out and thought I'd never find anything I liked that much ever again." She continued with why she paired each piece together. While this outfit may seem like it is made from just an Urban Outfitter dress and vintage tall leather claret wine boots from Hunting Ground, there is actually a sheer black shirt from American Apparel to make the outfit work-appropriate and winter ready. The large floral print of the dress and oversized pink lenses from the Emilio Pucci sunglasses gives a splash of color taking this look back to the 70's. Rebecca likes to let her personality shine through her outfits and has fun mixing new and old pieces together. I’ll be looking out for Rebecca again to see what she wears next!

I met Yasmin McCarthy at an event hosted by Roland Park Country School, where our daughters go to school, and was instantly drawn to her conservative yet funky style. Yasmin was wearing a black silk blouse from BCBG and Hudson black skinny jeans from Jean Pool.
