What to Wear: Rock N’ Roll Monster Mash Bash Live!

As you know, we are well into October. In terms of wardrobing, that means that Halloween is right around the corner. And with Halloween, comes parties that require…costumes.

When it comes to costumes, there two types of people. The first are the ones that LOVE to dress up. The second dread the thought of getting into a get-up up for Halloween. Count me in the latter of the two groups. In the spirit of full disclosure I have to admit, having spent a good part of my 20’s in L.A. on Halloween, I used to go all out and dress up. I’m kind of over the all-out over-the-top Halloween look. However, it does present an opportunity to express a different side of your style. Take, for instance, Casey Cares Foundation’s upcoming “Rock N’ Roll Monster Mash Bash Live!” when the nonprofit combines its annual rock-themed party with the Halloween theme. Here are my picks for what to wear to that event and any other costume parties you might have coming up.

The key to mastering the stylish costume is good basics. From there, you can build multiple looks to get you through costume season. You can’t get any more basic than a little black dress. I found this velvet Urban Outfitter’s number at their Towson Location {424 York Rd, Towson, MD 21204}. It’s simple and versatile. Once you have the dress, you need a simple pair of black shoes. Any pair of of black pointed toe pumps will do the trick. If you don’t already have a pair, I found these by Jessica Simpson at DSW in Canton Crossing {3501 Boston Street, 21224} for $59.99. (Photo courtesy dsw.com)

Now that you have your basics, it’s time to get on your Amazon account and get creative.

You can’t get much more Halloween than a witch. All you need is a hat (on Amazon for $13.74), broom (on Amazon for $9.97 ) and pair of fishnets (on Amazon for $4.99) Super easy and not too over the top. Not to mention, there’s no way people won’t know what you’re going as.

Going witchy doesn’t fly? Or you have more than one Halloween party this season? You could choreograph your costume in a different direction. Channel your inner black swan with a simple tutu (on Amazon for $19.99). Layer it over your dress, and you won’t have to worry every time you bend over. If you’re feeling extra authentic, swap out the black stilettos with these ballet slippers (on Amazon for $5.99). After all, no one said ballerinas have to wear pink.

Last but not least, you can adapt your little black dress into “101 Dalmatians” villain Cruella de Vil. All you need is a “dalmatian” jacket (on Amazon for $39.25) and a pair of red gloves (on Amazon for $3.49). If you’re feeling extra festive, you can add this black and white wig (on Amazon for $19.99) into the mix as well.

No matter what look you choose, remember, just because it’s Halloween, doesn’t mean you have to lose your sense of style. xx
