What to Wear: Soiree for Play

What to Wear: Soiree for Play

When I heard about Playworks Maryland’s “Soiree for Play,” the dress code of “playful cocktail attire” seemed easy enough. Then, I kept reading and saw that sneakers are encouraged! I wear sneakers to the gym and to run errands. I do not wear them with jeans. And I definitely I do not wear them with dresses. So – needless to say – when I saw this dress code caveat, panic ensued.

Then, a fashion miracle transpired.  This city girl had made a rare trip to the ‘burbs and had some time to kill, so I decided to suck it up and return the shirt that’s been sitting in my car since summer. That’s when I stumbled upon a treasure trove at the newly renovated Nordstrom at Towson Town Center.

The first thing I spotted was this amazing dress by Topshop. I love the sleeve details. Not to mention, at $60, it’s a steal. I’ve seen similar dresses around town upwards of three hundred dollars. (Photo courtesy topshop.com)

While in the Topshop section, I spotted this dusty rose overcoat. It’s probably too warm to wear this week, but totally worth getting to pair with the dress come winter. And, if you REALLY want to wear it before it gets super cold, you can always throw it over your shoulders. (Topshop Coat $160, Photo courtesy nordstrom.com)

From there, I wandered into the shoe department in search of a pair of sneakers. This pair by Kendall + Kylie caught my eye. I still don’t know how I feel about sneakers with dresses at night or how I feel about wearing Kardashian shoes, but there’s no arguing that this pair is pretty cool. After my trip to the shoe department, I spotted this gem in the handbag section. Everything about this Valentino bag is perfect. The velvet, the spikes, the size – all perfection. If you’re in the market for an investment bag, this is the one. (Valentino Rockstud Velvet Shoulder Bag, $2595, Photo courtesy nordstrom.com)

On my way out, I found these pink tassel earrings. They are the same tassel found on the Topshop dress, but in the same color as the overcoat. Talk about finding THE perfect accessory for an outfit. It matches, but isn’t too matchy-matchy. (Baublebar Earrings, $36, Photo courtesy nordstrom.com)

Have fun and if you’re a traditionalist like me and just can’t bring yourself to wear sneakers at night, throw on a pair of black booties and you’ll be good to go! xx
