Easy Elegance for ’18

Easy Elegance for ’18

New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite holidays. Why? Because everyone’s looking their best! And it’s a night that allows you to take your usual casual looks up a notch by adding flares of elegance and glamour. It’s one of the few nights of the year when you can really let your love for sparkle and glam go wild without looking too gaudy.

While attending the New Year’s Eve Party at Grand Central in Mount Vernon, I ran into Chey Mayer who looked fabulous in her New Year’s Eve get-up. Definitely one of the best dressed in the room. I had to know more about how she created such a stunner ensemble. When asked to describe her style, here’s what she had to say…

“I would definitely say my style is more androgynous. I buy men’s clothing because that is what I like and find comfortable. I do also like that wearing men’s clothing makes my style ‘different’ in a way. I like to buy clothing that is dark and simple, but also makes a statement…I like versatility in my look. There are days when I like to dress up in a crisp form fitting suit, and there are days when I wear a T-shirt, jeans, and Vans.”
This speaks true to her look, because when she walked in the room I immediately recognized her style as unique. This look works so well, and I personally loved it because it’s one of my favorite colors….black! When in doubt, black clothing always looks sleek, sophisticated, and modern. Chey’s black ensemble doesn’t blend in or get lost in the crowd…..it pops!

Her form-fitting blazer from Zara is dazzling without looking overly flashy. It’s the perfect amount of sparkle and looks high-end and classy. It’s hard to pull off a glittery blazer….and NYE may be one of the only nights of the year when it’s possible. But if anyone pulled this off, Chey did. Her bow tie, also from Zara, adds a dapper feel, making her stand out amongst the rest. A style choice like a bow tie always says a lot about one’s personal style.

I also love the sleek, clean look of her Zara shoes. If anything matters when it comes to styling a killer look – it’s attention to detail. And Chey certainly paid attention. Everything from her Jimmy Lion Socks to her Express belt works together in perfect harmony to create a look that feels high-end and polished, but still has enough flare to grab your attention when she walks into the room. Chey is definitely starting off 2018 with her best foot forward!

One of my dearest friends, Jeremy Rosendale, introduced me to his sister, Sara Rosedale, and I LOVED her style. It’s no wonder! Fashion must run in the family, because Jeremy also has great style. But apparently, he’s not the only one… Sara’s got my attention now. Here is what Sara had to say about her style and look:
“My style definitely changed when I moved to San Francisco. I would say it is a mix of West Coast boho-chic and modern feminism. For work, I like mixing more modern, clean pieces in neutral colors for a professional look. When I’m not working, I like to experiment more-prints, fun cuts, etc. In whatever I choose, I make sure that I feel confident and comfortable, so I can take on the day!”
This is one of the huge reasons I love fashion. It really can build confidence. And Sara definitely looks ready to tackle the day. Her white knitted top from Urban Outfitters looks fashionable and comfortable. I especially loved the knot at the waist of the shirt that helps accentuate her figure.

Her jeans and knee-high riding boots are both from Madewell. These boots really make this outfit a sophisticated and chic look. They help make her whole outfit look more high-end and expensive. But at the same time, they’re not overly embellished. I love how simple they are, while still adding so much flare to her look.

But the real star of the show is her David Yurman ring. This is such a staple piece and it adds an element of elegance to any outfit. David Yurman jewelry steps up the fashion game on anything you wear. From jeans to dresses, it helps creates a fashion-forward look. It can help take even the most lack-luster pieces up a notch. I also loved her Gorjana and Katie Dean bracelets. They both look very delicate, and it’s a great juxtaposition against the thick boldness of the ring. Overall, Sara’s look is simple and clean, while still looking chic, modern and high-end. Even though it is minimalist, it is still saying a lot.

FOUND – I made a stop in one of my usual spots that I love to visit for hunting out thrifted gold – Bottle of Bread in Mount Vernon. And as usual, I found something I LOVED – a cropped vintage, forest green fur jacket with suede accents and a silk lining. This piece is too fun and screams for an owner who loves to make loud and playful statements with heir fashion choices. Someone who’ll rock it with confidence.

While a bold fashion choice, this jacket could still be so versatile for the right person. You could easily dress it up with jewelry and gold accents, or dress it down with a moody, all-black chic look. Putting the green jacket against an all-black or all-white outfit underneath will really allow it to pop. With this piece, you’ll be leaving everyone green with envy….except Superman, because this jacket might be his kryptonite.
