What to Wear: Pratt Contemporaries’ “Black & White Party”

I’m really bad at winter. I love dressing for the season (hello fur, knits and leather), but I am perpetually unprepared for the elements. Perfect example, I was leaving the gym in Harbor East and needed to run some errands in the neighborhood. I walked outside and found myself gloveless in below-freezing temps. Long story short, I went into South Moon Under (815 Aliceanna Street, 21202) and saw a sea of sale items. I love a sale all the time, but I REALLY love a sale in January. After all, its that time of year where you vow to be more fiscally responsible. So, of course I decided to take advantage of the situation and look for something to wear to the Pratt Contemporaries’ “Black & White Party” (where wearing anything other than black and white is completely frowned upon!).

The first thing that caught my eye was this black strapless sequin number by ASTR. The dress is simple, classic and you can wear it year-round. And, at $53.99 (marked down from $110) you’re sure to get your money’s worth. (Photo courtesy southmoonunder.com)

From there, I headed over to the shoe section. I saw these black Steve Madden’s marked down to $50.99 from $99.95. I like the tie/block heel combo. And trust me, you’ll be thanking me the next time you have to dress up and there are less than desirable conditions outside. The last thing you want to do is wear a pair of uber expensive designer shoes anywhere near a salted sidewalk. (Photo courtesy southmoonunder.com)

If the Steve Madden’s were too Plain Jane for you, these Sam Edelman pointed-toe lace pumps might be the shoe for you. Like the Steve Madden’s, you can wear these formal or casual. And, you can’t beat the sale price of $61.19 (marked down from $120). (Photo courtesy southmoonunder.com

As you know, I LOVE black & gold. So when I saw this little sparkly pouch by Slant on sale for $5.99, I knew it was meant to be. I tend to favor a larger evening bag, but I feel like this is kind of perfect touch to a black ensemble. It’s technically a make-up bag, but I won’t tell if you don’t. Last but not least, I spotted these black & gold tassel earrings by SMU. They’re super fun and tie everything together. Not to mention, they are on sale for $11.99 (marked down from $32). (Photo courtesy southmoonunder.com)

And voila, you have an entire outfit, all of which can be worn again, for a total of $133.16 ($122.96 if you opt for the Steve Madden’s). xx

p.s. In case you were wondering, these are the mittens I ended up going with. (Michael Stars Mittens on sale for $14.99 from $32. Photo courtesy southmoonunder.com)
